Epidurals: Time to stop labouring over ‘natural’ childbirth

Epidurals: Time to stop labouring over ‘natural’ childbirth

“Natural childbirth has become a multimillion-dollar industry. The fear of epidurals is promoted by those who discourage their use - and who have a vested interest in doing so.”

Really? And a director of obstetric anesthesiology has nothing to gain from women choosing epidurals? This comment is so telling! It must be hard to feel so threatened by a woman’s choice to not medicate herself and her baby during labor!

Edited to add:

Once again, Rixa offers the clarity and eloquence of her thoughts on this topic.

How has natural childbirth become a multimillion-dollar industry? It is pretty DIY as far as I am concerned :P
My non-epidural didn’t cost any money at all. I am confused as to who $profits$ from me not getting an epidural? Maybe I should read the article.

They’ve got plenty to gain. About $1,000 to $3,000 per patient! Ka-ching!

That has to be one of the oddest articles that I’ve ever read! Talk about a fractured theory! Epidurals are the way to go - here’s proof from two natural birth advocates? It just left me confused - no point was proven.
